User of the Week: How ServiceRocket keeps things from falling through the cracks

Name: Kendall Beckelhymer
Company: ServiceRocket
Position: Sales Manager

1. What’s your company/role?

I manage the Inbound/Outbound Sales Team at ServiceRocket. ServiceRocket helps software companies increase adoption, growth, and overall customer success by building their training businesses and 24×7 support offerings.

2. Why do you love ToutApp? How do you use it for your job?

  • My email activities are automatically logged into Salesforce so I don’t have to add information in two places.
  • I love the “Push to Tout” option from Salesforce, it allows me to quickly create groups and reach out to several people at once in a personalized email. I can also track who is most the engaged of those groups which helps to prioritize follow-ups.
  • Templates are great, you can share and collaborate with your team and easily tweak things to make them more effective!

3. Why Tout vs. other sales tools in the market?

Much of my communication is done via email, as someone that’s constantly in my inbox it’s great to have an integrated tool that reminds me about follow up actions and even does them for me so I don’t let things slip through the cracks.

It’s also integrated with Salesforce and very easy to use so new reps are able to hit the ground running and already have a toolkit that sets them up for success.

4. What was your journey into sales?

I never really intended to get into sales but when I graduated from college I started my career working for Enterprise Rent-a-Car (that’s right, we’ll pick you up).

From there, I continued to discover opportunities in sales. I took a small hiatus as an English Teacher in Buenos Aires and upon my return started at ServiceRocket, coincidentally not in sales. However, I continued to find myself volunteering to help out with sales and customer support and eventually my role evolved into the position I hold today. I love being the forefront person for my customers and helping them find solutions to some very important problems in the SaaS space. I’m also able to mentor my team, many of whom are just starting out, which is something I’ve been fortunate to have in my career, so it’s great to be able to give that back to them.

5. What’s one of your favorite sales tricks?

I genuinely love what I do and want to help people. I think that passion comes through and in turn leads to closing deals (sorry to get cheesy).

Also, I think a trick that I use often to get more face time is picking one day of the week to do all of my in-person meetings and stacking them up.  When I reach out to customers/potential customers they are always more inclined to book the time when they know I’ll be in their area.

6. Favorite email you’ve ever received?

Any time I receive an email with positive feedback about my team I’m very excited!

**Congrats to Kendall + ServiceRocket for winning this week! We couldn’t be happier to have you on board with ToutApp. If you’re interested in being the next featured superstar, please apply here. **

User of the Week: How the VP of Sales from Zenefits uses ToutApp

User of the Week: Sam Blond

Company: Zenefits

1. What’s your company/role?

I’m the VP of Sales at Zenefits. We manage your benefits, payroll, and HR – so you don’t have to. No more paperwork. No more headaches. It’s all done online and completely paperless.

Best of all, we do this for free.

2. Why do you love ToutApp? How do you use it for your job?

  1. Email templates are great for mind share and training new reps.
  2. Saves us a ton of time – we have templates for every step of the sales cycle:
    – Post demo
    – Follow up
    – Non-responsive prospect
    – As soon as they sign up, etc.
  3. Reps love having visibility into whether their emails are being viewed and how often

3. Why Tout vs. other sales tools in the market?

It’s easy to implement, lots of functionality, and my reps love it!

There is very little business interruption for the value the technology adds. When we have new hires it takes us hours to train them on other tools (ie SalesForce), but just a few minutes on Tout.

4. What was your journey into sales? How do you go from an SDR to VP?

I moved to SF after college. I started as an SDR at EchoSign and was with that company for 6 years until I joined Zenefits.

I found a career that’s a really great fit for me. I love sales, and I love technology. I also got a bit lucky in selecting a company that grew very quickly and allowed me to move up with the company as we grew. I was an SDR for about 6 mos at Echosign, and then was able to convince my CEO to let me close. After being in a closing role for a couple of years, I got into management when the opportunity presented itself.

*Hard work and having the patience to grow within a company pays off! We love this “work your way up” story!

5. What’s one of your favorite sales tricks?

If someone is non-responsive to emails or phone calls, send them a calendar invite. They reply every time.

*ToutApp thinks this is an amazing idea! Of course, don’t use this trick with every prospect. But, if there is some back and forth and a client goes dark, try the calendar invite trick!

6. Favorite email you’ve ever received?

Any email telling me I won a huge deal!

**Congrats to Sam + Zenefits for winning this week! We couldn’t be happier to have you on board with ToutApp. If you’re interested in being the next featured superstar, please apply here. **

User of the Week: How Client Management Teams Work with ToutApp

User of the Week: Dana Bakich

Company: Omnigon

1. What’s your company/role?

I work on the client management team at Omnigon. We’re a digital consultancy that conceptualizes, designs, develops and delivers digital solutions for sports, media and entertainment companies.

2. Why do you love ToutApp? How do you use it for your job?

  1. Easy to use interface
  2. Integration with Salesforce
  3. Analytics to gauge the success of each template

We use ToutApp’s tight integration with Salesforce to reach out to potential new leads and track that relationship.

3. Why Tout vs. other sales tools in the market?

The ability to add groups, customize templates and track the success of those templates was key.

4. What was your journey into sales?

My two passions have always been sports and non-profit work. In Florida, I started my career in non-profit working closely with sponsors and managing campaigns/events throughout the year. When I moved to New York City, I decided to focus on the sports space and was lucky to find a job working with some of the biggest brands in the business (PGA Tour, NASCAR, Fox Sports, WWE, etc.)

My role at Omnigon is split between managing accounts and creating new relationships/ opportunities. It’s great to be a part of the entire process – from the pitch to the finished product.

5. What’s one of your favorite sales tricks?

It’s simple but successful:

LinkedIn is one of my favorite resources. If you can find a way to connect with someone, there’s a greater chance to start building that relationship. You’ll want to make sure that you adjust the connecting message to something more personal. This will show you have a legitimate reason to be reaching out.

6. Favorite email you’ve ever received?

Always the ones that begin with…”We’d like to partner with Omnigon on…” :)

**Congrats to Dana + Omnigon for winning this week! We couldn’t be happier to have you on board with ToutApp. If you’re interested in being the next featured superstar, please apply here. **

User of the Week: Grouper + ToutApp = Dating perfection?

User of the Week: Cindy Blass

Company: Grouper

1. What’s your company/role?

Grouper is a social club that sets up drinks between 2 groups of friends. We work with the most interesting people and places in your city.

As the Sales Manager at Grouper I spend my days searching for and partnering with the best venues in the US, Canada, & the UK to host Groupers.

2. Why do you love ToutApp? How do you use it for your job?

ToutApp has been a breath of fresh air for our sales team. It helps us to be more efficient (templates), more organized (Salesforce integration), and most importantly helps us to keep in touch with our venues (schedule send & reminders).

3. Why Tout vs. other sales tools in the market?

As soon as we started out Tout trial we knew it was the one! Aside from all of the amazing features (sales gong!!), the customer service is second to none (shout-out to Happiness Officers Jen & Natalie!)

4. What was your journey into sales?

Being the youngest in a family of seven you learn pretty quickly how to stand out from the rest. You either develop some sales skills or you’re stuck watching everyone else’s favorite TV show and eating everyone else’s (gross) cereal.

5. What’s one of your favorite sales tricks?

I’ve found understanding the needs of the customer and building a relationship with them to be the most important things any person in sales can do. And always ask for referrals!

6. Favorite email you’ve ever received?

Any e-mail our Director of Sales (Zach) sends – he’s hilarious! :-)

**Congrats to Cindy + Grouper for winning this week! We couldn’t be happier to have you on board with ToutApp. If you’re interested in being the next featured superstar, please apply here. **

User of the Week: Jay Tuel, Strongview

User of the Week: Jay Tuel

Company: Strongview

1. What’s your company/role:

I manage the lead gen team at StrongView, an Email & Cross-Channel Marketing provider. My team is tasked with educating, nurturing and finding new business opportunities amongst our target prospect list.

2. Why do you love ToutApp? How do you use it for your job?

My team uses ToutApp to identify prospects who are engaging with our content/messaging in real-time. I use ToutApp’s analytics to see what templates are generating the best engagement, so that we can create more content that will resonate with those prospects. I think the Live Feed feature allows our team to respond quickly to companies that are potentially interested in partnering with StrongView.

3. Why Tout vs. other sales tools in the market?

The great thing about Tout is how easy it is to use. Installation and set-up takes a couple of minutes and then you are off and running. Also, most people have email templates sitting with individuals, but with Tout you can have them all in one place and quickly see which ones are getting the best results. Knowing when and how our prospects are interacting with our content is crucial to our outreach strategy and let’s us prioritize our days much better. There aren’t many companies out there that have a tool like ToutApp.

4. What was your journey into sales?

When I was about 10 years old I found an old box of my uncle’s baseball cards.  I then did my research on them and realized that people would pay a good amount of money for them.  I would drive around to all the card shops and figure out who would pay top dollar for them.  Making those sales became addicting and I wanted to see how much I could make out of this small enterprise.  A few years later, I started working at a car wash selling monthly memberships loyalty programs and realized I had a knack for upselling and delivering value to our customers.  Once I got my degree, I immediately got into sales, to utilize the skill set I honed growing up.  While what I do now is different than selling baseball cards or car washes, I still get a kick out of working with people and identifying solutions that will fit their needs.

5. What’s one of your favorite sales tricks?

I’ve always subscribed to the KISS notionKeep it simple stupid. I think a lot of people try to cram too much into one email and the message is lost or worse than that, immediately deleted. Also, always have a catchy subject line.

6. Favorite email you’ve ever received?

Best email I have received was from someone who I hadn’t responded to for 5-6 emails who mentioned their next follow-up message was going to be by carrier pigeon. I think humor is a great icebreaker and definitely caught my attention. I had to reply even though we couldn’t use their solution.

**Congrats to Jay for winning this week! We couldn’t be happier to have you on board with ToutApp. If you’re interested in being the next featured superstar, please apply here. **

User of the Week: Johnny Chin, Bannerman

User of the Week: Johnny Chin

Company: Bannerman

1. What’s your company/role:

Bannerman offers the fastest and easiest way to book private security (bodyguards, security guards, and bouncers). Clients are able to book last minute at no extra cost. All of our guards are licensed, have passed background checks and are extensively trained. Many of our Bannermen are ex-military that have honorably served our country.

As one of the founders, I do a little bit of everything (Product, HR, Accounting, etc) but my favorite is finding and getting to know new clients.

2. Why do you love ToutApp? How do you use it for your job?

ToutApp helps me stay super organized. That is key when you’re trying to thrive in a chaotic startup environment and when you feel like you’re playing chess (if chess had a million different dimensions).

ToutApp’s features allow me to be on top of communicating with our Bannermen, keeping in close contact with our clients and being as effective as possible at finding new customers. I don’t think I could live without the “templates”, “groups” and mail merge tools.

3. Why Tout vs. other sales tools in the market?

I’ve had the opportunity to use many different sales tools out there with this startup and with past companies. I made the active decision to switch and pay for ToutApp because it’s honestly the best tool out there to stay organized on the client acquisition side of things. The combination of tools and features are much more advanced than anything else out there. I will continue to stick with ToutApp because it has soul. This comes through with its content, fun features (like the Sales Gong), and its ninja customer service.

4. What was your journey into sales?

My Father was in sales. It’s in my blood. I used to pack batteries, game boy games and candy at summer camp and sell them to all the kids. When I was a young choir boy, I sold raffle tickets to raise money for our European singing tours. The girl scout cookie stands had nothing on me.

5. What’s one of your favorite sales tricks?

One of the goals in sales is to stand out and be remembered. I learned this in college when I played rugby. Being one of the smallest guys on the field, I would often collect “souvenirs” from the game. This translated into showing up for office hours with shoulder splints and bandaged wrists or the likes. The professors always seemed to remember me and therefore became much more accessible. I was able to form fantastic relationships with many of them, while other students never stood out beyond being a dude in a popped collar.

I’m not saying you should go beat yourself up, but maybe use the “Schedule” feature and send an email at 4 AM. You might be remembered as the person that sent back an email at 4 AM.

6. Favorite email you’ve ever received?

From ToutApp asking us if we wanted to be ToutApp User of the Week. Duh Deborah.

**Congrats to Johnny for winning this week! We couldn’t be happier to have you on board with ToutApp. If you’re interested in being the next featured superstar, please apply here. **

User of the Week: Bartlomiej Skorupa, Go Works

User of the Week: Bartlomiej Skorupa

Company: Groundwork Oppurtunities (GO)

How long they’ve used ToutApp: December 2013
1. What’s your job? Tell us a bit about what you do and where you work.
My name is Bartlomiej Jan Skorupa and I am the co-founder and Executive Director of Groundwork Opportunities (GO), a nonprofit based in San Francisco. GO invests in leaders who have the capacity to end poverty in their communities. By engaging a global network through technology, GO is able to provide these leaders with the tools — visibility, training and seed funding — they need to bring their projects to scale and accelerate systemic change in their own communities and beyond. You can learn more about me and our work here.

2. Why do you love ToutApp? How do you use it for your job?

GO connects local leaders who have the capacity to end poverty to an audience of potential supporters—we call these philanthropists “GO Champions.” With dedicated support from GO staff, Champions volunteer their time to publicize and fundraise for a specific leader and their project(s). ToutApp makes it super simple for us to send GO Champions letters about how to effectively share their story, raise funds, and give them support they need to engage an audience of support for our local leaders. From inspiring the next generation of philanthropists to encouraging those already in the movement, ToutApp makes it easy to stay personal while staying efficient.

You help our family grow while not losing the human element so vital in our work

3. What is one interesting/unknown fact about yourself?

I have a coral reef named after my dive partner and me (“Bart-Rek”) as we were the first humans to ever discover it. I am greatly humbled to know that we were the very first people in the history of our planet to discover something, especially since it continually reminds me how little we know about our own oceans.

4. Favorite place you’ve ever visited?

Zanzibar. My wife and I loved it so much we had our wedding there late last year.

5. What’s the best email you’ve received?

Mate,
Can't meet, sorry, killer bear on the loose. Moscow these days, you know? Have fun in Siberia.
All best,
James

This was sent to me by my good friend James, who is a reporter at Russia Today in Moscow. I was staying at his apartment and this was his goodbye message to me. We never got to grab one last drink together as this damn killer bear that was rampaging the streets of Moscow and he was dispatched to cover the story. I had already booked my train ticket to Siberia and this was the most epic goodbye email I have ever received.

**Congrats to Bart and Groundwork Oppurtunities for winning this week! We couldn’t be happier to have you on board with ToutApp! If you’re interested in being the next featured superstar, please apply here. **

User of the Week: Creighton Green

I co-founded a startup company called Aptivada. We work closely with TV stations, radio stations, and other media outlets to help them quickly grow their social presence. Our apps, tools, and media-specific consulting drives exciting results.

We send a LOT of the same e-mails every day for customer service, sales, and marketing.

ToutApp helps us work smarter, and much faster by providing a suite of tools and features to make sending e-mails better.

We use ToutApp's templates to save time on the daily hours that we were using to write the same type of email over and over again. One of our favorite features is being able to track opens and clicks. This helps us know who we need to follow up with or send another email to. ToutApp is also very simple and easy to implement. Everything ties in easily to Gmail and Outlook. If you're not using ToutApp for your startup or business, you should check them out.

You can get in touch with Creighton through Twitter: @creightongreen

Every other week, we'll profile a different person who uses our app to improve their email productivity. If you would like to be featured in the future, you can apply here.
