‘Tis the Season

Tis the Season to be grateful and thankful for so many things. Bacon, ToutApp and family just to name a few of my favorites.

What a wonderful time of the year. I was lucky enough to join the ToutApp team recently and have never been more grateful. While I chose an innovative and growing company many of my friends found themselves in the corporate world. Sitting in a cramped cubicle with a syllabus and little to no direction.

I feel blessed to say the least. I have accepted a position where I am growing and learning everyday. My boss is not a corporate dictator whom I never encounter. My boss, the Founder of ToutApp, is my mentor. He has taught me more about the industry and marketing than I could have learned in two years of school, or sitting in a corporate cubicle.

Tis the season to give back. 

An so, I would like to share with you some universal marketing truths we've developed at ToutApp around building a GREAT brand and spreading a message.

  1. Don’t forget to latch onto to something bigger than you, a greater movement that people care about. At ToutApp, we pride ourselves on this truth. We will soon be launching a new initiative that will allow you to be a part of something bigger than just you and your business. Keep a lookout “Tout for Tout.”
     
  2. It is all about making the customer feel like a hero. If your customer doesn’t reach for a cape after getting off the phone with you - you aren’t doing it right.
     
  3. Talk about the benefits, not the features. Sure your features are awesome but if you don’t pull them in with how your product is going to change their company - they, quite frankly, won’t be interested.
     
  4. Find places where your customers already congregate and go hang out there.
     
  5. Give the ability to boast and share easily and it will spread. Teach people how to be better and they will join you.
     
  6. Talk about why and beliefs. No about the what and the how. Read more about Simon Sinek to really understand this.
     
  7. Exude a strong and consistent image that others can easily recognize. This is otherwise known as bacon, excuse me I mean branding.
     
  8. Make all your efforts fun, do it with passion. Show that you have a pulse. Most importantly, make it fun and enjoyable for yourself.
     
  9. Build yourself rails essentially give yourself the ability to easily try and test new and different things.
     
  10. Measure outcomes. Double down on things that work even if it costs money.
     
  11. Know that you are dealing with actual human beings. Figure out and visualize what it would be like if you were actually talking to the person and or following them around your “store”  - where do they go? What kind of questions do they ask? What do you say to them to put them at ease and guide them to the next step of the process?
     
  12. Lastly, no one is a unique snowflake. Analyze people’s behavior, segment them. Know their strengths, weaknesses, wants and behaviors.
